Question
Sony vaio enable second monitor
Answer

What to do if your Sony Vaio wont detect a second monitor even though it is plugged in.

Let me say from the outset that I'm not a fan on Sony Vaio(s). I used to think Sony produced very good quality stuff: even it it was a bit expensive. Now I feel you still pay a premium and you get total tat and a couldn't care attitude when their very sub standard products fail. Dont beat about the bush I hear you say. What do you really think? Well it's not appropriate for a business web site.

I have a Toshiba which was a third of the price, and four time as old and it's standing up better than the Sony Viao. So in at leat one way Toshiba are 12 times better than Sony. Their support web site (I was looking to upgrade the sturdy old Tosh) is wonderful compared to the cranky token web support service provided by Sony.

So you have plugged in your external monitor. May be its the first time, may be you have done it a dozen times before. Now F$£%"$^%! when you right click on the desk top and select personalise: no amount of trying to enable the second monitor and extend desktop works.

This is how to sort the problem:

Hit the windows button and go to control panel

sony vaio enable second monitor

Click on System

sony vaio enable second monitor 2

Now click on the link: Device Manager

sony vaio enable second monitor 3

Expand the Display drivers node (little (+) thingy): NOT Monitors as you might expect.

sony vaio enable second monitor 4

Right mouse click on  INVIDIA GeForce... (this is the display card built into your VAIO)  and select Scan for hardware changes...

sony vaio enable second monitor

Hopefully, things will flicker a bit and your external monitor will now be alive!

Happy viewing.
